Barney Bunch/Speakonia Community Timeline (Pre-2000s)

Below is a list of events that happened throughout the history of the Barney Bunch and Speakonia Community. Keep in mind that much of the information on the group, at least in its earlier years, is fairly sparse or lost, so mostly significant information will be listed. This section will cover events prior to the new millennium.

While the Barney Bunch was not formed until 2005, some significant events happened before their founding that is worth noting, whether it be the debut of characters or the birth of creators or significant people.

1800s edit

  • July 1, 1867 - Canada (Arthur and Caillou's country of origin) declares its independence from Great Britain
  • September 4, 1877 - The Quaker Oats company, which would later feature the Quaker Queer as their mascot, is formed.

1900s edit

  • January 1, 1901 - Australia (The Wiggles, and DJSwell69, and SavageBoy69's country of origin) declares its independence from Great Britain.

1910s edit

  • July 14, 1910 - Birth of William Hanna.
  • March 24, 1911 - Birth of Joseph Barbera.
  • 1915 - The year Thomas the Tank Engine was built according to The Railway Series/Thomas and Friends canon.
  • November 8, 1915 - The birthdate of Lou Pickles, according to Rugrats canon.
  • November 16, 1916 - Birth of Daws Butler, the first actor to voice Yogi Bear.

1920s edit

  • October 22, 1920 - Book publisher Scholastic is founded by Maurice Robinson. The company would later publish the Clifford books and adopt him as their mascot of sorts.
  • April 4, 1923 - Warner Bros. is founded by 4 brothers Harry, Albert, Sam, and Jack L. Warner The company would later acquire the rights to Hanna-Barbara’s properties and would also form Cartoon Network. Some of their characters would be utilized in the Speakonia community.
  • October 16, 1923 - The Walt Disney Company is founded by Walt Disney and his brother Roy. Their characters and films would play a significant role in several Speakonia projects.
  • October 14, 1926 - A. A. Milne, and E. H. Shepard publish the first book in the Winnie the Pooh series. The book would be adapted into a Disney movie, and Piglet would eventually be utilized in the Speakonia Community.
  • November 28, 1928 - Steamboat Willie is released, marking the debut of Mickey Mouse. Mickey would later be the basis for Pube Disney.
  • December 1, 1929 - Birth of David Doyle, the first voice actor for Lou Pickles in the original Rugrats cartoon from 1991 up until his death in 1997.

1930s edit

  • December 26, 1933 - Birth of Caroll Spinney, the first actor to portray Big Bird in Sesame Street.
  • March 7, 1934 - Birth of Willard Scott, the first actor to portray Ronald McDonald.
  • December 30, 1935 - Birth of Jack Riley, the voice of Stu Pickles in the original Rugrats cartoon.
  • September 24, 1936 - Birth of Jim Henson, creator of the Muppets and the primary actor for Kermit the Frog.
  • July 30, 1938 - Birth of Michael Bell, the voice of Drew Pickles and Chaz Finster in the original Rugrats cartoon.

1940s edit

  • 1940 - The first McDonalds restaurant is founded by brothers Richard and Maurice McDonald in San Bernardino, California.
  • February 10, 1940 - William Hanna and Joseph Barbera release the first Tom and Jerry short titled "Puss Gets the Boot", cementing themselves as cartoon legends. Some of their creations (most prominently Yogi Bear) would later feature in Speakonia videos during the 2010s. Tom's scream throughout the series would also be used for Chaz Finster many years later in Barney Bunch content.
  • July 27, 1940 - The Merry Melodies cartoon "A Wild Hare" is released, marking the debut of Bugs Bunny, the basis for the Pube Hare.
  • July 28, 1940 - Birth of Phil Proctor, the voice of Howard Deville in the original Rugrats cartoon.
  • November 25, 1940 - The Andy Panda short "Knock Knock" is released, marking the debut of Woody Woodpecker, who would be the basis for the original Pube Bird (later renamed to the Pube Pecker).
  • December 23, 1943 - Birth of Harry Shearer, the voice of Ned Flanders in The Simpsons.
  • September 14, 1946 - The second book in The Railway Series titled “Thomas the Tank Engine” is published by Reverend W. Awdry, marking the debut of the title character, who would appear in small spurts throughout the Barney Bunch decades later.
  • April 19, 1948 - Birth of Tim Curry, the voice of Nigel Thornberry in The Wild Thornberries cartoon and Drake in The Pebble and the Penguin.
  • September 17, 1948 - Birth of John Ritter, voice of Clifford in the 2000’s series.

1950s edit

  • July 21, 1953 - Birth of Jeff Fatt, who would later become a member of The Cockroaches and form The Wiggles.
  • March 1955 - DC Comics (called “National Allied Publications” at the time) releases Adventure Comics #210, marking the debut of Krypto the Superdog.
  • April 15, 1955 - McDonalds becomes a full fast food franchise after Ray Kroc purchases the restaurant chain from the McDonald brothers.
  • May 5, 1955 - Jim Henson debuts the Sam and Friends television series, which was the first appearance of his iconic character Kermit the Frog. Kermit would be the basis for the Pube Muppet many years later.
  • June 25, 1956 - Birth of Bob West, the voice of Barney the Dinosaur from 1992-2000.
  • Sepetmber 16, 1956 - Birth of fitness trainer and TV personality Tony Little. Years later he would become a popular character to use in Speakonia videos.
  • May 25, 1957 - The birthdate of Drew Pickles, according to Rugrats canon. This would change time and again depending on Barney Bunch lore.
  • July 7, 1957 - Hanna-Barbera Productions Inc. is formed.
  • 1958 - A episode of The Huckleberry Hound Show named "Yogi Bear's Big Break" airs, marking the debut of the titular Yogi Bear.
  • October 23, 1958 - The birthdate of Stu Pickles, according to Rugrats canon.
  • 1959 -Roger Daltrey forms the British rock band The Detours, whom would eventually rename themselves as The Who a few years later. They would become a popular topic for Barney Bunch videos in the mid 2010s.
  • March 21, 1959 - The birthdate of Betty DeVille, according to the Rugrats canon.

1960s edit

  • January 30, 1961 - Yogi Bear gets his own animated series in The Yogi Bear Show.
  • June 30, 1961 - Birth of Murray Cook, who would later form the Wiggles.
  • August 4, 1961 - Birth of Barack Obama, who would be the basis for the Singing Barack Obama Doll.
  • 1962 - Jim Henson would produce various commercials for Purina Dog Chow, introducing his character Rowlf the Dog. Rowlf would eventually be the basis for Pube Puppy.
  • 1963 - Ronald McDonald makes his first ever commercial debut, replacing the former mascot Speedy the Hamburger. Also, the first book in the Clifford the Big Red Dog series is released by author Norman Birdwell. Captain Crunch also debuts with his cereal.
  • May 8, 1963 - Birth of Anthony Field, who would later form the Cockroaches and The Wiggles.
  • December 13, 1963 - Birth of John Simmit, the original actor for Dipsy.
  • August 28, 1965 - The first Subway is founded by Fred DeLuca and Peter Buck. The restaurant franchise would eventually have Jared Fogle as their spokesperson.
  • 1966 - Jim Henson produces three unaired commercials for Wheels, Crowns and Flutes, featuring a character that bears a resemblance to the Cookie Monster. He would later become the basis for Pube Cookie Monster years later.
  • February 20, 1967 - Birth of Kath Soucie, the voice of Phil, Lil, and Betty Deville in the original Rugrats cartoon.
  • October 18, 1967 - Disney releases their animated version of The Jungle Book.
  • December 24, 1967 - Grover makes his first appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show under the name “Gleep”. He would later appear on Sesame Street, and would later be introduced as one of the earliest rivals for the Barney Bunch in the form of the Grover's Gay Gang.
  • November 3, 1969 - The PBS channel is founded. It would officially launch in 1970.
  • November 10, 1969 - Sesame Street airs its first ever episode. This marked the proper debut of the Cookie Monster as well as the first appearance of Big Bird, who would not only be one of the staple BB members during the Newgrounds era, but would also be the basis for the current iteration of the Pube Bird.

1970s edit

  • December 20, 1970 - The Great Santa Claus Switch premiers, marking the debut of Gonzo, who would be the basis for Pube Jason.
  • March 1971 - General Mills launches the Monsters Cereal, starting with Count Chocula and Frankenberry. These characters would feature in Speakonia media sometime in the 2020s.
  • November 1971 - A character known as the Evil Grimace debuts in a McDonalds commercial. Several years later, he would be reworked into Grimace the Talking Testicle.
  • November 17, 1971 - The Sesame Street episode Episode 0278 airs, which has a segment featuring Sammy the Snake.
  • January 16, 1972 - Birth of Greg Page, who would later form The Wiggles.
  • December 1972 - Boo Berry is added to the Monsters Cereal lineup.
  • February 24, 1973 - The Schoolhouse Rock! music video “Lucky Seven Sampson” airs on the ABC channel, the title character of the music video would later be featured in the Speakonia Community.
  • November 8, 1973 - Disney releases their version of Robin Hood.
  • 1974 - Frute Brute is added to the Monsters Cereal lineup.
  • March 3, 1975 - The Muppet Show: Sex and Violence pilot premiers, marking the debut of the Swedish Chef and Statler and Waldorf. They would be the basis for Pube Swedish Chef and the Pubic Grandparents respectively.
  • 1976 - Arthur's Nose is published by author Marc Brown, making it the first appearance of Arthur Read and the first entry on his book series.
  • September 5, 1976 - The Muppet Show premiers on ATV in the United Kingdom.
  • September 26, 1976 - The Muppet Show episode "Jim Nabors" premiers, marking the debut of Scooter, who would be the basis for Pube Nerd.
  • March 11, 1977 - The Many Adventures Of Winnie the Pooh is released in theaters. It is a compilation of the Disney shorts focusing on Winnie the Pooh that were done in the 60s and 70s.
  • August 23, 1977 - Birth of Jared Fogle, the former Subway spokesperson who would eventually be a popular subject with some Speakonia users, primarily Speakonia Plus.
  • December 1, 1977 - Nickelodeon officially launches in Columbus, OH.
  • March 5, 1978 - The Muppet Show episode "Zero Mostel" premiers, marking the debut of Beaker, the basis for Pube Beaker.
  • June 19, 1978 - The first Garfield comic strip is released. The character (and some of his costars) would become the basis for the early rival group the Garfield Gang.
  • 1979 - The Cockroaches, an Australian pub rock band, is formed by brothers Paul, John, and Anthony Field. Anthony would later go on to form the Wiggles in 1991.
  • February 28, 1979 - Birth of dildosdildo123/Mr. Captain Joe 69.
  • May 31, 1979 - The Muppet Movie is released, being the first of several films to feature the Muppets.

1980s edit

  • 1980 - Animaton studio Klasky Csupo, who would go on to create Rugrats, The Wild Thronberrys, and The Wacky Adventures of Ronald McDonald, is founded by Arlene Klasky and Garbor Csupo.
  • May 15, 1980 - The Sesame Street episode Episode 1439 premiers, marking the first appearance of Elmo, a future Barney Bunch member and the basis for Pube Elmo.
  • May 17, 1980 - Birth of Dean Wendt, the voice of Barney from 2001-2010.
  • 1981 - Jeff Fatt joins The Cockroaches.
  • May 23, 1981 - The Muppet Show concludes after a five year run.
  • July 9, 1981 - Donkey Kong is released in arcades by Nintendo, becoming a smash hit. This game marks the first appearance of Mario (then named Jumpman), who would be utilized in the Speakonia Community during the Newgrounds era, being spammed across the site at one point.
  • 1982 - Henson International Television (HIT) Entertainment is formed. Frute Brute is discontinued.
  • June 19, 1982 - Birth of Michael Yarmush, the first voice of Arthur Read.
  • September 15, 1984 - Muppet Babies premiers on CBS.
  • October 9, 1984 - The Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends television series premieres.
  • August 2, 1985 - The Sesame Street movie Follow That Bird is released in theaters.
  • 1987 - Birth of MrCaptainJeff.
  • 1988 - Fruity Yummy Mummy is added to the Monsters Cereal lineup. Scholastic and Nelvana release a direct to video series called “Cliffords Fun With…”, Six episodes were produced.
  • May 18, 1988 - Daws Butler passes away.
  • August 29, 1988 - Barney the Dinosaur debuts in the direct-to-video series Barney and the Backyard Gang, which would later become Barney and Friends a few years later.
  • September 17, 1988 - Garfield and Friends premiers on CBS.
  • 1989 - Hélène Desputeaux publishes the first entry in the Caillou book series. The character would feature in small spurts in future Barney Bunch content, and even becoming a member of the Barney Bunch.
  • June 7, 1989 - Birth of Bryan McAuley, the first person to voice Caillou in the 1997 animated series.
  • December 17, 1989 - The Simpsons premier on Fox with the episode "Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire". This episode marks the debut of Ned Flanders, who would become a Barney Bunch mainstay character in the future.

1990s edit

  • 1990 - The unaired pilot of Rugrats, "Tommy Pickles and the Great White Thing", is produced by Klasky Csupo. This marks the first appearance of Stu, Didi, and Lou Pickles. Tommy would go on to be the basis for Screw Pickles years later.
  • January 21, 1990 - An episode of The Simpsons titled "Homer's Odyssey" premiers. This episode marks the physical debut of Waylon Smithers Jr. (his voice was first heard in the first episode of the series), who would later be introduced into the Barney Bunch and be another character used by Speakonia Plus.
  • May 16, 1990 - Jim Henson passes away at age 53.
  • 1991 - The Wiggles are formed. Turner Broadcasting purchases Hanna-Barbera.
  • August 11, 1991 - Rugrats premiers on Nickelodeon as one of its first ever Nicktoons, alongside The Ren and Stimpy Show and Doug, with the episode "Tommy's First Birthday". This episode marks the first appearance of Drew Pickles, Angelica, Betty DeVille, and Howard DeVille.
  • August 18, 1991 - The Rugrats episode "Barbeque Party" premiers, marking the first appearance of Chaz Finster.
  • October 20, 1991 - Barney and the Backyard Gang ends its original run.
  • November 2, 1991 - Muppet Babies airs its final episode.
  • December 28, 1991 - Naoko Takeuchi publishes the first issue of the Sailor Moon manga. It would sometimes be a popular subject for the Speakonia Community and Foot Fetish Community to parody, including a recurring character known as Gurio Umino (known in the English dub as Melvin Butlers) who would later become a Barney Bunch member, and many Sailor Soldiers (particularly Sailor Jupiter) would become members of the Ketchum Klan.
  • 1992 - Birth of Blood. Fruity Yummy Mummy is discontinued.
  • February 21, 1992 - The 16th installment in the Super Sentai series, Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger (恐竜戦隊ジュウレンジャ) is released in Japan. Footage from the show would be adapted for the first season of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.
  • March 7, 1992 - The first Sailor Moon anime premiers in Japan.
  • April 6, 1992 - Barney and Friends premiers on PBS in the United States.
  • October 1, 1992 - Cartoon Network is launched. Its original programming lineup consisted of classic cartoons, many of which from Hanna-Barbera. The network would later air the Krypto The Superdog animated series.
  • October 30, 1992 - Humongous Entertainment is formed.
  • December 6, 1992 - The Rugrats episode "The Santa Express" premiers, marking the first physical appearance of Drew's wife Charlotte.
  • 1993 - Production of Rugrats is halted after Season 3, with only 2 holiday specials being released at the time. Also during this year, Fatty Bear's Birthday Surprise is released on home computers, marking the debut of Fatty Bear. The SmartSketch software is released by FutureWave Software. It would later become Adobe Flash in 1996 after it was purchased by Macromedia.
  • June 3, 1993 - Barney's Hide and Seek Game is released for the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive. The sprite used for Barney in the game would also be partially used for Drew Pickles Jr.
  • August 28, 1993 - Mighty Morphin Power Rangers premiers in the US on Fox Kids with the episode "Day of the Dumpster". This would mark the debut of the series antagonist Rita Repulsa, who would go on to be the basis for the Repulsa Republic years later.
  • September 1993 -Birth of BarneyPoop (Tim C.), the founder of the Barney Bunch on Newgrounds.
  • October 8, 1993 - The Barney and Friends episode "Look At Me, I'm 3!" premiers, marking the debut of BJ.
  • October 11, 1993 - PBS launches PTV, which would rebrand itself as PBS Kids in 1999.
  • 1994 - The Cockroaches disband.
  • March 1994 - The Cockroaches release the “St. Patrick’s Day 10am” album.
  • December 10, 1994 - Garfield and Friends airs its final episode.
  • March 26, 1995 - The first pilot episode for Johnny Bravo airs as part of World Premier Cartoons (Later renamed to What A Cartoon). The title character would later become one of the earliest antagonists for the Barney Bunch in the form of the Nega Barney Bunch.
  • April 11, 1995 - The Pebble and The Penguin is released in theatres. The film's main antagonist, Drake, would later be introduced into the Speakonia Community in 2022 by Michael of Random.
  • July 12, 1995 - Newgrounds.com is launched by Tom Fulp.
  • October 9, 1995 - Wishbone premiers on PBS. The title character would be the basis for a Speakonia group called the Wishbone Resistance.
  • Mid 1990s- Speakonia is launched by CFS Technologies for Windows 95 systems.
  • 1996 - Rugrats resumes production after Nickelodeon orders more seasons.
  • May 10, 1996 - The Internet Archive is launched.
  • September 9, 1996 - Crash Bandicoot is released for the Sony PlayStation, marking the debut of Ripper Roo, who would later be a Barney Bunch member during the mid 2010s. The game's main antagonist, Dr. Neo Cortex, would also be the basis for Dr. Nerd.
  • October 7, 1996 - The Arthur animated series premiers on PBS.
  • February 26, 1997 - David Doyle passes away.
  • March 17 , 1997 - Cartoon Network launches the Toonami block, which broadcasts various anime and action cartoons in the evening. Reruns of Sailor Moon would be shown on the block later on.
  • March 31, 1997 - Teletubbies airs on BBC Two in the United Kingdom
  • April 1, 1997 - The Pokémon anime premiers in Japan. It marked the debut of Ash Ketchum, whom along with his mother Delia, would be the basis for the Ketchum Klan.
  • May 2, 1997 - Birth of IronYoshi1212 Productions.
  • July 14, 1997 - Johnny Bravo premiers as a series on Cartoon Network.
  • July 24, 1997 - Birth of TheKetchumBunch.
  • September 15, 1997 - The Caillou animated series premiers on Teletoon.
  • December 4, 1997 - Wishbone airs its final episode.
  • December 18, 1997 - The Wiggles Movie is theatrically released in Australia.
  • May 7, 1998 - The Wiggles' first television series premiers on Seven Network in Australia.
  • April 3, 1998 - Barney's Great Adventure, which is Barney's first theatrical film, is released. It would become both a critical and financial failure.
  • August 17, 1998 - Mister Moose's Fun Time premiers on Fox Family (now Freeform). This show had segments with The Wiggles and Thomas and Friends, marking the first time the Wiggles appear on US television.
  • September 3, 1998 - The Wild Thornberrys premiers on Nickelodeon, marking the debut of Nigel Thornberry.
  • September 8, 1998 - The Pokémon anime premieres in the United States on Kids WB, becoming a cultural phenomenon.
  • October 9, 1998 - The Wacky Adventures of Ronald McDonald, a direct-to-video animated series created by Klasky-Csupo, is released at participating McDonalds restaurants.
  • November 20, 1998 - The Rugrats Movie is released in theaters, and proves to be both a critical and financial success. It also became the first non-Disney animated feature to surpass a hundred million dollars at the box office.
  • May 1, 1999 - SpongeBob SquarePants premiers on Nickelodeon. The title character would be utilized in the Speakonia Community during its YouTube era.
  • October 1, 1999 - The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland is released in theaters.
  • December 15, 1999 - Windows 2000 is released to the public. It features a new TTS program called Microsoft TTS, rendering Speakonia obsolete. This TTS engine features the SAPI5 versions of Sam, Mike, and Mary.
