Caillou is the title character of both his books and TV show, and was one of the Barney Bunch members who was introduced during the early YouTube Era, but he wasn't commonly used.

Description[edit]

Caillou made his debut in 1989 in his own series of books published by Christine L'Heureux, and he would eventually get his own cartoon series in 1997, first airing on the Teletoon channel in Canada, and would later make its way into US television on PBS in 2000 alongside the premier of Clifford The Big Red Dog's TV show, and the show would run until 2010, and reruns aired on the network until 2021. Beginning in late 2016, Wildbrain released a revival series onto YouTube, and the episodes would be released on the official Caillou channel, and they would later be released on Amazon Prime, however these episodes weren't available for people in the US until 2021. In August 2021, Cartoon Network acquired the rights for Caillou to air on Cartoonito, and it would air both the original series and the rebooted series on the programming block. Later in September of 2021, Wildbrain announced five original 45-minute CGI specials that are set to be released in the summer of 2022.

Caillou was used since the early YouTube era and it’s unknown when he was added to the Bunch, but it was estimated to be around 2007-2009 when he was introduced into the Barney Bunch.

Similarly with both Nigel Thornberry, and Gurio Umino, despite not being forgotten, he is still not a very commonly used character when compared to many other recurring members of The Barney Bunch, although he still tags along with the Barney Bunch sometimes, whenever they go someplace.

Outside of the Barney Bunch, he along with many other preschool show characters who are Barney Bunch members were a very popular subject for the GoAnimate/Vyond Community, where they would do videos known simply as "Grounded Videos" where he does something (example: Going to Chuck E. Cheese) and then gets grounded for a ridiculously long amount of time. (In Trillions, Billions, Millions, Thousands, or Hundreds of Years) And later on, the Vyond/GoAnimate community would later do videos where he is depicted being a malicious program on one’s computer (known as "Character OS" videos), to formulaic rants on his show, or even videos where he gets killed by his own parents in some absurd, disturbing, and lethal ways known as "Punishment Day Videos", and these videos gives off the impressions that the community takes their hatred for the show too far, and these videos are usually looked down upon by many people outside the Vyond/GoAnimate community for being repetitive, abusive, shocking, violent, boring, or even sexually explicit. And aside from Vyond/GoAnimate users, there were also parents upset at the character for encouraging temper tantrums to kids, especially the infamous “Caillou Joins The Circus” episode, and and even petitions were even made to pull Caillou off the air, as well as Anti-Caillou groups being made on Facebook. Grounded Videos out of Caillou are still being made today.

In the Speakonia community, he is voiced strangely by Adult Male British English #1, which sounds nothing like his voice in the actual Caillou cartoon, and it's possible that this voice was used in contrast to how Quebecers have a similar voice to the Adult Male British English #1 voice.

Trivia[edit]

  • Caillou in recent times has not been featured in modern videos aside from background role in group videos due to him being underaged.
    • Then again, The Barney Bunch is known for tons of shock value as humor.
