Generic Gets Owned (also known as Your Generic X Gets Owned or Owning Videos) is another video type that became extremely common within the Speakonia Community around the late 2000s and into the early 2010s. These videos mainly served as way for members of the community to vent their frustrations out on certain things. As the years went on, these videos became less common and began to fall into relative obscurity admits the dominating Goes To, Secret Missing Episode, and Blood-style videos.

Format edit

As with many videos made by the community, the Generic Gets Owned videos follow a traditional format that rarely breaks from the status quo.

  • The video opens with the titular "Generic" introducing themselves, stating that they are a pathetic failure at life that deserves something cruel or silly to happen to them. They then explain why everyone hates them so much. Sometimes, the Generic will be replaced by an actual user or person that the video maker happens to dislike.
  • They then explain that they like to have sex with a bunch of random objects, and go on to list a bunch of them, (stuff like pillows, colored pencils, apples, etc.) including some objects that are physically impossible to get in contact with (the lyrics to the National Anthem of Norway, the space-time continuum, the stairway to heaven, etc.). After they do so, they decide that they want to have sex with a particular object from their list, only for said object to dump them. This causes the Generic to become sad and lose the will to live, though sometimes, they may not feel this way, and may say they'll do their act to relieve their anger.
  • Before they can off themselves, the Generic encounters a random character (for example, Drew Pickles) or a real person who proceeds to do the titular "owning", though oftentimes, finally finishing the Generic off for good. They then end the video with a random quote and the video ends. Most popular to own the generic is mostly Tony Little.

History edit

The exact origin of the Generic Gets Owned video is unknown, though it is believed that the style originated from HoodboyTails with his video "Your Generic Gamefaqs User Gets Owned", being posted back in July 2007. The style would then spike in popularity in the early 2010s. Some of the most prolific writers of this style included El Cash Jikuya and FoxtrotDeltaLima497, who made various owning videos featuring all sorts of notorious individuals and mundane irritations. Various other users began to join in on this trend as well.

By the mid to late 2010s, the style began to decline among members of the community, mostly because it was overshadowed by the Goes To and then blossoming Blood-style videos, and not through any real underlying issue. While the style itself is far from dead, it has not been used as much as it once was, save for a few instances.
